Starting with AI in Mauritius

  • No AI-specific law yet, as far as we know

    Mauritius published a national AI strategy in 2018, which recommended setting up an AI council. The Data Protection Act 2017 already applies to any AI tool that handles personal data.

  • A data protection officer from 2027

    From 1 January 2027, controllers designate a certified staff member as data protection officer and inform the Office within 14 days. The officer's remit covers your AI tools too. We prepare the AI part of the file; we cannot be your officer.

  • Client data in free tools

    Pasting client data into a tool hosted abroad can be a transfer outside Mauritius. Section 36 sets the conditions, such as safeguards proven to the Commissioner or the person's explicit consent. We turn that into simple rules your staff can follow.

  • Two working languages

    Many Mauritian teams write to clients in English and in French. Your AI rules should cover both: which tool, which language, which data.

  • Deployment support

    We follow the roll-out with you, month after month: AI agents, tools, training your team and tracking results. You decide at every step.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an AI law in Mauritius?
Not as far as we know: we have found no law specific to AI in Mauritius today. A national AI strategy was published in 2018, and the Data Protection Act 2017 already covers your tools. We check the current rules with you before starting.
Do we need a data protection officer for our AI tools?
From 1 January 2027, Government Notice 117 of 2026 requires every controller to designate a certified data protection officer from its staff. That officer oversees all processing, including AI tools. We help you document the AI part.
Can our staff use ChatGPT with customer data?
Yes, with rules. Customer data sent to a tool hosted outside Mauritius is a transfer, with conditions set by the Data Protection Act 2017. We help you choose suitable tools and settings, and decide what must never be pasted in.
Can the AI workshop be held remotely?
Yes. The team AI workshop runs by video call, with exercises based on your everyday work in Mauritius. We agree the details, including the language, during the free call.
What does AI consulting actually involve?
It helps you decide where artificial intelligence is useful in your business, choose the right tools, then put them in place without risk to your data. We start from your real tasks, not from the technology.
Do I have to buy your AI agents afterwards?
No. The roadmap is yours: you can carry it out with us, with another company or on your own. If you entrust us with the project, part of the price of the diagnosis or the roadmap is deducted from your invoice.
Will AI replace my team?
No. It takes on repetitive tasks. Your team keeps the decisions and the contact with your customers.
Does what I show you stay confidential?
Yes. Our terms of sale require us to keep your information and documents confidential, for the whole contract and three years after.
