Starting with AI in Rwanda

  • A national AI policy, not an AI law

    Rwanda's Cabinet approved the National AI Policy in April 2023, drawn up by MINICT with RURA. It sets six policy areas and fourteen recommendations for responsible, inclusive AI. As far as we know, there is no AI-specific law.

  • Your DPO covers your AI tools

    Appointing a data protection officer is mandatory under Rwanda's 2021 law. Your AI tools fall within that officer's remit. We are not your DPO, but we give them the facts they need about each tool.

  • Customer data in free tools

    Pasting customer data into a tool hosted abroad can mean storing it outside Rwanda, which needs NCSA authorisation. We write clear rules on what staff may paste and where.

    • The rules to follow: the data protection law that applies to you, European rules where they apply, and telling people when they are talking to an AI

    We follow the roll-out with you, month after month: AI agents, tools, training your team and tracking results. You decide at every step.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an AI law in Rwanda?
Rwanda has had a National AI Policy since 2023, but no law specific to AI as far as we know (September 2026). Your AI tools still fall under Law No. 058/2021 on personal data. We check the Rwandan rules with you before we start.
What does the national AI policy mean for a small business?
It sets a direction for the country rather than new duties for your company. We use its principles of responsible, inclusive AI as a checklist when choosing your first use case in Rwanda.
Can our staff use ChatGPT with customer data?
Yes, with care. Customer data pasted into it may leave Rwanda, which the 2021 law restricts. We help you choose the right tool and set clear rules.
What language is the AI workshop in?
The workshop runs by video call, with exercises from your everyday work. We agree its language with you during the free call, based on the language your Rwandan staff use at work.
What does AI consulting actually involve?
It helps you decide where artificial intelligence is useful in your business, choose the right tools, then put them in place without risk to your data. We start from your real tasks, not from the technology.
Do I have to buy your AI agents afterwards?
No. The roadmap is yours: you can carry it out with us, with another company or on your own. If you entrust us with the project, part of the price of the diagnosis or the roadmap is deducted from your invoice.
Will AI replace my team?
No. It takes on repetitive tasks. Your team keeps the decisions and the contact with your customers.
Does what I show you stay confidential?
Yes. Our terms of sale require us to keep your information and documents confidential, for the whole contract and three years after.
